Why Game Testers Exist
I’ve heard a lot of people ask the question “If game testing is legit, then why doesn’t everyone do it?” Answer, I have no idea. Game testing is totally legit. If you don’t want to take my word on it, then do the research yourself.
I just saw this cool video on Youtube.com. It’s actually done by a game tester and he shares the real reason why game testers exist. You can check out the video by clicking here.
Basically game testers are REQUIRED for every single gaming company to make money on games. The testers are the ones that play the games, for hours and hours and find all the glitches. You absolutely CANNOT put a game on the market with glitches. You will lose money. Can these big gaming companies afford to lose money? Sure, but do they want to, no.
And so the plan was hatched. Why not find a bunch of young kids who love to play video games? Then you pay them so the company can write it off as a “Research Expense”. No loss on their part. It was the perfect idea.
And so it has been this way now for years. All of the big gaming companies hire game testers to test their video games. Some companies treat their guys well, while others maybe not so good. But so it is in the corporate world. When you’re a die hard gamer, you tend not to care so much if people treat you like sh**. Just as long as you are doing what you love, playing video games. Overall, the major game companies do treat their testers pretty good.
