Interview With a Game Tester
I found a really cool article on Destructoid.com about an interview with a game tester for THQ. I think it’s awesome that there are people out there who want to get out info on game testing. I personally get requests for interviews on a daily basis. Mostly from kids looking to do school projects.
So the testers name is Joel Marcantel. To start off, he mentions the fact that THQ is hiring right now for their new offices located in Phoenix. Something for all local Arizona residents to look into immediately. He got the job thru his career advisor in the Art Institute of Phoenix. He was also smart enough to get interview advice from his career counselor prior to applying for the job. Good, professional interviews are key in getting hired to be a game tester in any big game company.
What I found most interesting was the qualifications they were looking for in their testers. Most gamers feel that if they don’t have a college degree, there is no way to be considered for the position. Well as this interview states all he needed to get started was “Versatility, creativity, and a burning passion to play games. It’s easy to hire someone who can just run through a level, but if you’re being hired as a playtester they want someone who can push a game past its breaking point.”
