Breaking Into the Game Business

Some may say that testing games for a living is “too good to be true”.  Well I’m here to tell you it is true.  There are tons of gamers out there who test video games every day.

The first thing you need to determine is if you are cut out to test games.  Once you determine if this is something you actually want to do, you should do your “homework” and figure out how to go about getting that game testing job.

You have a few options:
* You can become a full time job tester working “in house”.  Basically you would be working in an office environment.
* You can be a volunteer beta tester.  Only negative thing on that is you don’t get paid for this volunteer position.
* You can test games from home for both publishing companies as well as designers/developers.

Regardless of which option you pick, game testing is by far the best way to get your foot in the door.

So what does a game tester do exactly?  A tester basically plays a video game and reports bugs or issues with the game.  Typically a game will go through multiple phases of testing with different game testers before being released for public consumption.  This is so very important as designers & game publishers wish to put out  final products that is error free and provides a positive experience for the gamer playing it.

Game testing, although it can be quite fun is not always easy.  Sometimes it can be difficult to play the same part of one game time and time again, but you have to keep in mind how important it is to the final product.  Then you have to take into consideration that you could end up testing a game that is not fun.  I mean let’s be real, not ALL games out on the market right now are fun.  I mean a Paris Hilton video game.  No thanks.

As a game tester, you’ll need to have basic computer skills.  You should be able to easily install all sorts of programs, drivers and op systems.  You may actually end up testing games specifically designed for the PC.  Even if you end up using a major game system to test games, you still need to be able to use and understand the basics of computers.  Excellent communication skills are a MUST.

So if game testing seems like the route you wish to take in your life, then step up and visit my site Game-Testers.com.

What are you waiting for?  Do something you love and get paid to do it.  Make a difference in the gaming world.
