Wii Straps

I’m sure by now everyone has heard about the “mishaps” with the Wii remote straps.  Are they truly defective, or are people just plain stupid?  We’ve all seen the video on the internet where the guy is playing with his Wii controller and it goes thru his TV.  Well let’s think about this a moment.  A plastic controller going thru a TV screen?  Come on, let’s get real here.  If anyone went for that one, then I don’t really know what to tell you except grow a brain.  I could see if you put ALL of your force behind it and purposefully smashed it thru the TV, but for that just to happen when you’re playing?  What are you on PCP?

So I decided to look a bit closer at this phenomenon.  I saw everything online ranging from recalls to hospitalization.  After digging through all of the data below is what I found to be true:
* Yes people have had accidents using the remote.  I could not find any legitimate reports of hospitalization.
* Nintendo is willing to replace any strap that has either been broken or where a consumer is just worried about it breaking.  They are doing this free of charge.  All you need to do is contact Nintendo HERE

* Nintendo is not recalling the straps.  If used properly, they work just fine.
* Replacement straps will be made thicker or “enhanced”.
* Nintendo will put detailed instructions on all new straps shipped so players understand how to use them properly.

So bottom line is that yeah some stuff happened, but seems to me it was by people who just got too out of control with the remote or who just let it go for whatever strange reason.

So let’s play safe.
