Video Game Reviews, Friend or Foe?
I’ve always wondered what was behind some of those reviews on new video games. Some could talk about how great the game was, but then I would play it and absolutely hate it. I would disagree with just about everything that the reviewer posted on the game. I found it hard to believe being a gamer that two opinions of the same game could be so different.
Apparently, I had reason to question this.
I just read an article discussing just this issue. In it they talked about video game journalists who were basically given exclusive access to a new game in exchange for a good review. In this article they even discussed how some journalists who published negative reviews were subsequently terminated from their jobs. You can read the entire article here:

It’s quite disturbing to say the least. I mean don’t the video game journalists have a moral and ethical requirement to provide us with honest reviews and not just post a good review to either keep their job or get at some new game before anyone else? That is simply not the way it is supposed to work. At least not where I come from.
Aren’t morals and ethics something good in this day and age? Shouldn’t we require that in any person these days? I expect when I read a review that it’s not tainted and is honest and true. If someone really enjoys a game and I don’t, well then that’s what gaming is about. Not everyone loves a game their friend loves, but let’s think about really how often do we see negative game reviews? I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a negative review. What about you?
