Stephen King, Defending Gamers!
Finally someone who is known throughout the world is speaking up against proposed laws to restrict sales of violent games, and label games unfit.
Mr. King, who I have the utmost respect for is a well established author. One that I have read for many, many years now.
He recently wrote an article titled “Stephen King: Videogame Lunacy” posted on Entertainment Weekly.
In the article he talks about a proposed law bill pending titled HB 1423, which for any gamer living in Massachusetts could change the way they get to play some of their favorite video games.
As he puts it best “HB 1423 would restrict or outright ban the sale of violent videogames to anyone under the age of 18. Which means, by the way, that a 17-year-old who can get in to see Hostel: Part II would be forbidden by law from buying (or renting, one supposes) the violent but less graphic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.” And he’s right. A 17 year old can go see a rated R movie, but they cannot play a video game. Have you seen Hostel 2? It’s horrific! When someone puts it that way, it’s very easy to understand how upsetting it is that the fact that same person may not be able to buy or RENT a violent video game is even a possibility!
I mean these games are already rated. Everyone is aware that M is for mature audiences only!
It is so great that someone is actually sticking up for what I have been saying forever now. Parents need to take the forefront here, not the politicians or these advocacy groups. If you do not want your child playing “M” rated games, then make it known to them.
If you’re a hard core gamer with a voice to be heard, then you need to be part of my site Game-Testers.com. Tell me what you think about censorship!
