PS2 Out Sells The Competition
Believe it or not, an older console outsold all of the newer ones on the market this past year.
So the most up to date reports are out on holiday sales of game consoles. PS2 out sold all of the other systems. Then comes the XBox 360 out selling the Wii which in turn out sold the PS3 (I wonder why?) The numbers break down as follows:
Sony PS2 1.4 million sold
XBox 360 1.1 million sold
Wii 604,000 sold
PS3 491,000 sold

Based on the latest figures the video game industry sold a total of $12.5 billion worth of merchandise. That puts it at the highest return ever by the video game industry. This is all based on NPD Group which is a marketing research firm.
I guess that everyone is in shock about the figures but they appear to be legit. I think the biggest problems were the fact that Sony couldn’t handle the supply. All that hype, what did they expect? People wanted the PS3 but there were simply not enough to go around. On that same subject, I am only hearing negative reports about continuing glitches in the PS3. Again, they were not prepared to release this system. This is apparently, the same problem (but on a smaller scale) that Nintendo had with their Wii system.
Same goes for top game sales this past year. Gear of War was number one by sales selling 816,000 copies. No big game sellers for the Wii or PS3 even appeared on the list. No wonder why really.
