Mirrors Edge-Faith The Orphan
Mirror’s Edge is a first person shooter being developed and published by Electronic Arts. It is due for release on November 11, 2008. It has been a year now since the game has been announced. It is a single player game.
The player will take on the role of Faith, an orphan who wants to save her sister from an oppressive government, which keeps its citizens under constant surveillance. Faith’s parents were murdered because they were against the government.
All means of communication are also kept under surveillance. Therefore, the only way people can actually communicate is by the use of “runners” who act as messengers and are incredibly agile. Faith is a runner whose sister is framed by the government for a murder she did not commit. Therefore, Faith has to become an outlaw to save her. Throughout the game, Faith follows instructions given by a mysterious character named Mercury.
Mirror’s Edge is a one of its kind since for the first time; the focus is on the player’s movements rather than game play. Faith is supposed to train her gun on enemies but the focus is more on how she moves across the city. Therefore, it is not exactly a first person shooter in the typical sense. It is more of an action game. Faith is a super heroine who has to do all sorts of daredevil stunts like jumping over rooftops, climbing over walls and running away from government agents.
This game has great graphics and a terrific storyline. With Runner Vision, it is easy for the player to view things and to perform stunts. This way your speed will not be affected even during nightfall. This game runs on Unreal Engine 3. The movements are very realistic since when Faith moves, she moves very freely and not rigidly. Faith’s movements have been modeled on parkour, the art of moving efficiently and quickly. This game is going to be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox360. Keep your eyes open for this game because it will totally change the way you look at first person shooters.
