Halo 3 ODST is a shooting game that surpasses most, if not all shooting games, with regards to graphics as well as sound and picture quality. The game is played from a first person perspective. Different from the previous versions of the Halo games, the player does not assume the role of a super soldier ‘master chief’. The player controls a lone UNSC soldier in the ancient city of Mombasa, in Kenya. The soldier is known as the “ODST” or the Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, and is not equipped with the advanced armory that Master Chief possess. He also lacks the reflexes and strength of the Master Chief and is more prone to attack.
The game is played in a completely open environment, using new vehicles and weapons. New features have been incorporated in the game including various acrobatics for the banshee character. The player is sent on a mission to explore the ruins in Mombasa and find more clues and news about his missing teammates. After reaching the first beacon, the player will decide which way to go. The flexibility of this version is amazing; allowing players to play campaigns, unlike the past versions.
The multiplayer mode of the game is equipped with 24 maps. Exclusive maps are included as ‘Mythical maps’ are bound to the achievements in the game. A new mode called ‘firefighter’ is shown in which players have the challenge of facing waves of tough enemies. New medals will be included in this version as well as the ability to cooperate with up to 4 players over XBox LIVE.
