Game Report Card is Out
Oh those media watchdog groups. So many groups, so little time. The National Institute on Media and Family just posted it’s 12th annual video game report card labeling the top games that should not be played by anyone under the age of 17. These are the “M” rated games.
A full list of the games they are warning against can be found here:
Report Card
Some of the games listed include Assassin’s Creed, Manhunt 2, and The Darkness just to name a few. I’ve played those games and although they are gory and violent, they are fun and exciting to take part in as well. I’m not saying that anyone under 17 should play them, that’s not what this is about. What it is about is the attempt to ban such games from hitting store shelves completely.
This is the land of the free, the home of the brave. We should be allowed to create and play the games we want to. We’ve already got a rating system in place, what more do they want?
I’ve said this too many times to possibly count. We can’t continue to blame video games for the senseless acts of violence that plague our society. Video games are everywhere, not just in the U.S. so why is it that we have some of the worst crime out there today? Has anyone ever stopped to ask that question?
Our entire existence needs to change, our entire world needs to change. What games we play as gamers will never truly have an effect on the ills of others. If they are sick before they pick up the controller, they will still be sick after. It’s the “before” that we need to remember. A person’s state of mind at the time they are playing is what is important here, not what a game “made them”.
Rubbish all rubbish and I can’t wait for it to stop. If you do not want your child playing a violent game, don’t buy it for them. Don’t rent it for them, don’t give them the money to get it, don’t let them go over to their friends homes where that friend is allowed to play it. As a parent, play the role to control what your child views/does on a daily basis instead of relying on blacklisting violent games completely for those of us who simply enjoy the artistry behind the making of the game.
If you feel as strongly as I do about gaming, then you need to sign up on my site Game-Testers.com. I will show you what it takes to get into the gaming business and start making money doing something you love.
