Fraud and World of Warcraft
Pretty bad news today for Blizzard and their successful subscription service. The British bank Halifax is now blocking any WoW subscription payments being processed on their cards. They are currently stating that WoW is experiencing a high level of credit card fraud thru their subscription service.
Although they do state it has nothing to do with Blizzards online payment processing methods, I don’t know how much that eases concerns of being defrauded online.
Online purchases area already scary enough. Quite honestly every time you put your card into an atm, give it to a waitress, etc you risk credit card fraud. That is just the way of our world today.
This should not be a negative mark against WoW or Blizzard. I am sure they do their very best to protect their billing process online. It appears that the users themselves are using stolen credit card numbers to purchase subscriptions.
It’s a shame that theft such as this results in good subscribers possibly losing out. If your card is with Halifax, then you can contact them immediately to make arrangements for your subscription payment to be paid via alternate methods.
I really hope they get this all figured out. Credit card theft is rampid and I don’t see how shutting off a great game like WoW is going to control that.
