Empire: Total War

Empire: Total War has been developed by Creative Assembly and is being published by SEGA. Empire: Total War is all set to be released on March 3, 2009. It is being released exclusively for the PC.

This is the fifth installment of the ‘Total War’ series and takes you through battles in the 1700’s and 1800’s. You have to make your choice of faction before you begin the game. Once you begin, your goal is to spread the power of your choice all over the world. You have military, economic and diplomatic measures at your disposal to achieve your goal. Run your people well, spread your power and defeat all others who have the same global aspirations as you have.

A special addition offered by Empire: Total War is related to the American War of Independence. The campaign is carried out in three episodes. The first episode involves the setting up of the colony, the second involves defeating the French and Native Americans and the third episode involves fighting for independence from the British.

The game offers a lot of action for those who love battles and wars and also for those who are more into strategic planning and nation building. You can choose to fight your wars in real time or you can let the game consider various factors like the military strength on both sides before determining the victor.

The best part about this game is the introduction of real time naval battles. Command fleets and destroy the fleets of your enemies. This game would have suffered had the visuals and graphics not been up to the par. However, the naval battles look as awe inspiring and glorious as I suspect they are in real life.

Of course, you have to keep in mind that the game is set in the 18th and 19th century. The technology and weapons of those times take some getting used to. You will have to shake off your addiction to modern and ultra effective weapons and will have to win wars by the sheer weight of numbers.

The signature 3-D battles and the turn based campaign maps of this game have been improved. The new technologies, the French Revolution and the American Independence all have an impact on your chances of succeeding in the game. Overall, this game is definitely going to rate very high in terms of the overall gaming experience.
