Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason has been developed by Action Forms Limited and is being published by Aspyr / 1C Company. Cryostasis is all set to be released on April 14, 2009 exclusively for the PC.
You begin this game as Alexander Nesterov, a meteorologist who has been assigned the duty of finding out what went wrong with ‘North Wind’, a Russian nuclear ice breaker. It now lies alone near the North Pole and your job is to unearth the mystery surrounding its current state.
Your plans go awry from the very start and you end up in the icy tomb with nothing more than a flashlight and a fur coat for your protection. Cold is your biggest enemy and you have to stand in front of heat sources like a naked flame or an electric bulb to restore your strength. It will take quite some time before you get hold of a weapon. Hence, you had better learn how to use your hands well. A combination of keys will help you deliver upper cuts and punches that will take out your enemy a lot faster than uncoordinated punches. However, controls, weapons and action is certainly not the biggest plus point of the game.
Rather, it is the wonderful concept of something called “Mental Echo” which sets this game apart. This concept enables you to delve into the minds of the now dead members of the crew and understand the final moments that took place on the ship. This will help you make sense out of the game. This ability enables you to travel back to the time when the ship was living and make changes to it to help you make your way through the ship.
At one point, you come across a frozen block of ice with a switch on its other side. You have to travel back to the time when the ice was nothing but a pool of water and sail across the pool to throw the switch. You then have to come back to find how the past changes have affected the future. This is how you have to progress in the game.
Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason is not your regular FPS game. However, if you like games which require you to be cunning and shrewd, this certainly is the game for you.
