A Great Testing Job Starts With A Great Resume
I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately asking for advice on resumes. There is no doubt in my mind that a great job starts with a great resume.
First, you need to pick out a template for your resume. You can usually find some great ones online. One site Resume.Info has terrific professional samples and they also have a sales staff that can help you should you decide to order a professionally written resume. Well worth the investment if you have the money to do it.
Most people think they have a resume and they can use it to apply for any job in any industry. That is simply not the case. A resume has to be tailored to fit the job you’re interested in. So a gaming resume has to have gaming experience and points listed within it to get noticed among the thousands of applicants who will be reviewed for the same job.
So now for the raw basics.
You need to start with an objective. This is where you basically state what kind of job it is you want and more importantly how you’re going to bring your skills to help better the company. A bad objective would be: To Test Games. A good objective would be “Experienced gamer looking to bring his/her skills in gaming to expand the horizons of the organization”.
Second is the next section the employer will see. Using bullet points you should list out your skills that will be important in game testing. You would list any computer skills here.
Then you would list your education but only if it is more than HS, such as a college degree.
Then you create a section titled Gaming Experience and again in bullet point style you list out all your personal achievements in gaming. If you have prior experience testing, you would list it here as well.
Then you can list your other job experience. If they are not pertinent to gaming, then make it short and to the point.
That should be it. Keep it down to one page and get your point across.
Templates again are important because you want the resume to flow.
Also, you should check the job posting that you’re applying for and make sure buzz words from the posting are in the resume somewhere but you don’t want to lie, you want to make sure you have the experience/skills they are asking for before you insert that information in your resume.
If you’re a gamer looking for a gaming job, then you need to sign up on my site Game-Testers.com. I’ll show you how to get the job of your dreams.
