5 Steps to Becoming A Game Tester
It’s everyones most frequently asked question. How do I become a game tester? Well there are 5 very basic points required before you can get started.
1. Determine what kind of tester you want to be.
To be more specific on that, you need to figure out if you want to work on a contract basis (1099), a payroll job, a full time, or part time gig. Basically you’ve got to figure out how you want to get paid and how much time you want to put into the position. Then you can move on to step 2.
2. Figure out what game company you would most like to work for.
There are so many game firms out there. Are you into XBox, Playstation, or Wii? Whatever your favorite console, there is a company out there that produces games for it. So just make a decision on what kinds of games you would be most interested in testing. That way when it comes time to select a job, you pick one working for a company where you would really enjoy testing their games.
3. Get some gaming experience.
This means even if it’s unpaid beta testing. Whatever you need to do to get some testing under your belt, do it. Any testing (paid or unpaid) can be used as experience.
4. Put together a resume.
Even a simple, entry level resume will do. You are going to need something to apply for jobs. You can’t just fax over your name & email address and expect to get the interview. You’ve really got to consider all of the applicants you go up against any given day. You must take this opportunity to market yourself and a resume does just that.
5. Apply for the job you want.
As you have to do research for every other point above, this one is most important. Once you know what company you want to work for, finding them is only a “google search” away. Contact the HR department or locate their job board and apply ASAP.
So there you have it. Pretty simple when you think about it. If you’re a gamer that is having problems finding a game testing job, then you need to check out my site Game-Testers.com. I will show you everything you need to get started testing.

I’ve been a game tester and ive go to say that… NO WAY are noobs going to be testing at BETA. BETA is too far off in development. At that point of the game, Your suggestions will not matter. What your going to be doing at this stage is looking for Gameplay and progression stopper bugs which at this point is ridiculesly difficult.
